Getting the Life You Desire — The Law of Attraction

by Mind Movies on Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Lately, popular culture has been all abuzz about the concept of the Law of Attraction. The concept itself is not new; in fact it has been around for centuries. However, thanks to the recent book and movie “The Secret,” more people than ever before are learning about this method for financial success and well-being used by people around the world.

The Law of Attraction, quite simply, is the concept that each of us is in charge of our goals and successes in life. It doesn’t matter where we live, whether it’s downtown New York City or on the outskirts of Bangladesh; using natural laws of attraction, one can achieve success in business, relationships and finance.

How does it work? Is there a science behind getting rich? According to its creators, the answer is yes.

Forum and discussion boards and blogs around the world are discussing the wealth-building tools and lessons provided by The Law of Attraction and are examining the principles behind the not-so-new method of gaining financial independence and success. Wallace Wattles first introduced the concept in 1910 and claimed that each of us has within themselves the potential to gain any goal we set in our professional and personal lives. It was his writings that inspired the film, ‘The Secret’. However, another author, Napoleon Hill, expounded on the method in his book called, ‘Think and Grow Rich’, published in the 1930s.

Devotees of the science behind LOA firmly believe that the power of positive thinking has the ability to change the direction of our lives. Attitude is vital to the success of any venture, whether it’s a new romance or a new job, or even a promotion. The Law of Attraction is about altering your thoughts and beliefs in order to obtain the goals you have always sought.

While one of the main benefits to The Law of Attraction method is attaining financial independence and goals, this self-improvement concept is more than about finances. It incorporates all areas of your private and professional life. Learning the secrets of the Law of Attraction will help build better relationships and focus your thoughts on the important things in life; health, happiness, and contentment.

Most people who have already obtained riches understand the concept behind the Law of Attraction. The information is not a big secret, but many people just don’t realize the importance of the concept when it comes to implementing them in their daily life. Whether you need help in the personal or professional aspects of your life, you owe it to yourself to learn about options and possibilities. The Law of Attraction is available to everyone, so quit wasting time bemoaning your circumstances and do something to transform the negative aspects of your life into positive ones. Take charge of your life and make the decision to become proactive instead of merely going along for the ride.

07 Secret History of Law of Attraction 07 Consciousness of Prosperity

by Mind Movies on Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

The Consciousness of Prosperity

Andrew Carnegie had long amassed his great wealth and was one of the richest men in the world when he met little-known journalist Napoleon Hill in 1908. Hill’s assignment was to write a series of articles on the most successful businessmen of the time. According to Hill, Carnegie said what he used a simple formula that was available to all, and commissioned Hill to interview 500 successful people in the world to acquire practical evidence of what Hill later called, ‘the Secret’ of wealth-creation.

Like Carnegie, Hill was born into poverty and struggled to survive in the world. 20 years later, Hill would publish the results of his research, which he called the Philosophy of Achievement in his book, The Law of Success. 11 years later, a smaller version of the Law Of Success was published as “Think and Grow Rich.” The central premise of “Think And Grow Rich” is: “Everything your mind can conceive, you can achieve.” While Hill does not explicitly use terms like ‘Law of Attraction’ or ‘thought vibration’, he does supply the points that are part of the Law of Attraction discourse: that thoughts determine your reality, the use of creative visualization, maintaining a positive attitude and surrounding yourself with positive people. Hill’s book made him wealthy, selling millions upon millions of copies, while setting the standard in the field of self-improvement through prosperity consciousness.

The Law of Attraction in 5 Minutes or Less

by Mind Movies on Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

I started SelfGrowth.com 10 years ago, and have been reading and following self improvement literature most of my life. In all of that time, I’ve never seen a concept so take the field by storm and ignite such passionate enthusiasm and interest among people as the Law of Attraction.

So let me start by explaining what exactly the Law of Attraction is, and how YOU can change your life with the Law of Attraction.

While there may not be one universally-agreed-upon definition, I think most authors and speakers who teach the Law of Attraction would agree on the following:

The Law of Attraction states that you attract into your life whatever you think about. Your dominant thoughts will find a way to manifest themselves; in other words, to make your thoughts, hopes and dreams reality.

So, if you believe you will get rich, you will get rich.

If you believe you’ll get the promotion, get the new car, the big house, get the girl – or guy – of your dreams, you will.

And the same holds true in reverse. If you believe you’re going to fail, if you think you’re a loser, well, you’re probably right. Fill your thoughts with visions of failure at work, crumbling relationships, health problems, then your negative thinking is going to attract those things into your life and make them come true.

And that’s the amazing promise of the Law of Attraction, this idea that ANYONE CAN change their life for the better at any time, simply by replacing negative thoughts with positive ones.

***

Now, I want to give my take on a few “hot button” issues surrounding the Law of Attraction.

First question: Is the Law of Attraction simply a matter of mindset, or do your thoughts and beliefs have the ability to change physical reality?

There are some people believe that the Law of Attraction works, but only in the sense that it helps keep you positive and motivated in order to go out and make those good things happen.

But others insist that the Law of Attraction goes deeper than that, and works almost on a molecular level. They believe that all matter and energy is in a state of vibration, and that these vibrations create an energy field that works like a magnet. Your thoughts, emotions and beliefs affect these vibrations and this energy field attracts similar energy.

So, positive thoughts literally and physically attract the things you wish for, and make them come into your life.

My own view is that the truth is probably a mix of both.

I think for health issues, psychological issues, well, any doctor can tell you of the amazing power of positive thinking in changing a patient’s physical condition.

As for the idea that thinking about that big mansion on the hill is going to change its molecules so that it will be yours one day – well, probably not. But it’s a nice idea.

Second question: Does the Law of Attraction “blame the victim?”

Philosophers and religious leaders have been debating the question of why bad things happen to people for millennia.

The Law of Attraction seems to offer a simple answer to this age-old question: bad things happen to people because they attracted them into their life. Either by thinking negative thoughts, or by failing to adequately think positive ones, people are ultimately and completely responsible for everything bad that happens to them.

My own take is that this becomes absurd if you take it to extremes. You can’t blame victims of random acts of violence, epidemics, genocides, hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes and say that they brought in on themselves. Some things truly are out of our control as mere humans.

Maybe you can’t completely prevent any bad things from coming into your life just by thinking positive. But I do think the Law of Attraction can still help you better deal with those bad things when they come.

The Third and Final question: Does this Law of Attraction thing actually work, and how can I get it work for me?

I believe that, yes, absolutely the Law of Attraction can be one of the most powerful concepts you can use to start improving your life for the better today.

While the term “Law of Attraction” is new, the principles behind it aren’t. This basic concept has been taught in one form or another by self improvement authors stretching back to Normal Vincent Peale and Napoleon Hill in first half of the 20th century.

So, the principles behind the Law of Attraction are time-tested and well-proven.

Begin each day by affirming the positive things you want out of life, and make it a habit to visualize the things you want. If you find yourself dwelling on negative thoughts and emotions, banish them immediately, and replace them with positive visions.

Start now and I’m positive you’ll soon see your life change for the better.

The Purpose of Yoga: Success and the Law of Karma

by Mind Movies on Monday, December 28th, 2009

Some Gurus, and Master Yoga, teachers do not embrace the concept of Yogic principles being used for success, self-improvement, and for acquiring abundance. After all, many people have misused power, and abundance, ever since primal man could stand up on two feet.

Lord Acton’s words ring true very often, when he said, “Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Many times, throughout history, famous people have fallen prey to power, which they thought they could handle, but learned that temptation was more powerful than their code of ethics.

Yet, we cannot help the poor much, if we are also poor. You can perform selfless service (Karma Yoga), no matter how much money you have; but you cannot contribute food to the poor, if you are waiting in line at a soup kitchen.

Therefore, if you have a plan for success, you should also have a plan to help those in need. The ancient Yogis completely understood the difference between wanting and envisioning. They also understood the pitfalls of each.

Children “want,” and so do “big children,” in adult bodies. They want without vision and take no action. Adults who take no action have mottos such as: “Why me?” “Why is life so unfair?” and “If life was fair, I would be rich.”

Whatever fortune falls into the lap of a person who wants, it is taken for granted and quickly squandered. The saying, “Easy come, easy go,” can become a lifestyle.

Envisioning is completely different from wanting. Envisioning allows a person to take a concerted effort toward a goal and achieve it. When a Yoga practitioner envisions something, it will often “come to pass,” because he or she took action, in the form of small steps, to make a thought become reality.

It is interesting, when the world, outside India, is “hooked” on Hatha Yoga (Union by Physical Mastery). Yet, Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, and Raja Yoga, are considered more advanced forms because they enhance mental and spiritual health. You see, the real power is in the mental and spiritual forms of Yoga.

Luckily, most people age, and mellow a bit, before discovering the true powers of envisioning and action. However, integrity ethics, and character, are often in short supply, when someone becomes “instantly rich.”

How often do we read about sports, and movie celebrities, who cannot handle their instant fame or material wealth? This is why the Law of Karma, and practicing Karma Yoga, are so important. Design a plan to give, help, and forgive, whenever you envision success.
